The largest gala ball in Wallonia. A student tradition that each generation makes its own and reinvents.
The Bal ULiège, originally known as the “Bal ULg”, was founded in 1998 on the initiative of Rector Willy Legros. From the very start, the event found its setting in the Halles des Foires in Liège.
Some editions drew as many as 11,000 guests: students, alumni and university staff alike.
Various constraints led to the event being suspended after the 2009 edition.
After five years’ absence, the ball was revived in 2014 by the Union des Étudiants Liégeois (UnEL), before becoming part of the activities of the ULiège student federation (Fédé).
In 2015, it became the first student event to earn the “BackSafe” label from the Walloon Road Safety Agency, thanks in particular to its free shuttle buses.
To mark the University’s bicentenary and its change of acronym, the “Bal ULg” officially became the “Bal ULiège”.
After an enforced break during the pandemic, the ball returned in 2022 and moved to La Fabrik, in Herstal. The 20th edition was celebrated in 2024.
